Feels Like Home

AM I...?

What I know to be true about every single one of us in our ‘adulting’ years is that at one time or another, we’ve asked one (or many) of the following questions:

Am I worthy? Am I enough? Am I valuable?

Appreciated? Respected? Loved?

Can I be accepted as I am, stretch marks and all?

Can I belong even though I don’t talk the way they talk and do the things they do?

Will I still be liked if I say no?

Within every single one of us is this desire to feel like we’re enough, to be loved, respected and valued.

who you are

Sometimes when we don’t feel good about ourselves, we identify with things in this world to prove our worth. We wear the right clothes, drive the right car, and hang with the right crowd. And because we have all these external factors working for us now, we feel like yes, finally I can now be enough.

Yet after all this striving we can stand in wonder, “why do I still feel so empty inside?”

Identity is defined as the fact of being who or what a person is. Your identity is about who you naturally are, as in who you were created to be.

When you can be you, the authentic you, you experience greater peace and contentment. You can live with greater hope, purpose, and fulfillment, rather than trying and striving, commanding and demanding, doing the things that just burns you out.

3 John 2

‘My friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and that you continually enjoy good health, just as your soul is prospering.’

As I recently read this verse, I recognized a key element I want to share with you. You cannot have true prosperity on the outside without also prospering on the inside.

Your soul is on the inside, your soul is where you experience an abundant, fulfilled, prospering life.

How is your soul?

When was the last time your soul felt ‘at home’?

A healthy, prosperous soul needs to be ‘home’.

We see homeless people on the street and we think, ‘that’s so sad I can’t believe they don’t have a home’ And yet for so many of us we have a physical home, but our soul has no home to return to.

We remember how amazing home feels when coming home from a holiday. Everything about home feels so good. The first night in your own bed is possible one of the greatest feelings ever!

Feels like home

Can your soul say, ‘this is where I belong, this is home.’

We don’t get this sense of home anywhere else. At home, I can walk around naked. I know it’s weird, but I’ve got 2 daughters and a husband. And he likes it. My girls are like ‘mom get some clothes on’ to which I’ve said, ‘listen you’re in my bedroom and in my bathroom. If I want to be naked I think it’s perfectly ok’. Now If I had a 13-year-old son this clearly wouldn’t work, but with girls, I can get away with it. I can wear my 10-year-old fashionless glasses, pj’s, and it’s a safe place to be. WHY? Because it’s home. It’s where I am loved just as I am.

If you’re someone who likes to please people, you likely find yourself working to belong, striving for acceptance, and seeking approval.  This ‘work’ wears us out.

It is essential that your soul has a place to call home. A safe place to express without fear of judgment, to cry without holding back, and to be still. No need to be earning, doing, rushing here and there, you’re simply enjoying the presence of the people you love, with God, or even by yourself.

Your soul needs to be home. There really is no place like home.

a prosperous soul

Your identity; your ability to be the authentic you is related to having a healthy, prospering soul. If that’s true, then how can your soul prosper?

Join us next time for part two as we share three elements to a healthy, prosperous soul.
