Think Right. Eat Right. Pt 1
“Your brain represents only 2% of the weight of your body. It consumes 20% of your total oxygen and 65% of total glucose. What you eat directly affects your brain’s ability to function on a significant scale. How and what you eat affects your mind, brain and body.” Dr. Carolyn Leaf – Think and Eat Smart
Free to choose
We all are free to choose what to eat, however we are not free from the consequences of these choices. We are also free to choose what we watch, what we say, what we read and see, though there will be consequences of these choices for the positive or the negative.
If we want to live healthy and happy, we have a responsibility to improve the way we eat. We cannot survive, let alone thrive without proper nourishment for our body, mind and soul.
What you think affects what you eat, and what you eat affects what you think. Consuming highly processed sugar, salt and trans-fat food contributes to obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, stroke, allergies, learning disabilities and more. Drink a can of pop and you bring on brain fog while throwing your body into toxic stress.
How many pops do you drink a week? How many high sugar, fiber stripped fruit juices? Energy drinks? Flavoured Lattes’? Do you struggle to focus? Do you struggle to maintain stable energy, moods, joy, peace and contentment? Do you steward your time and energy well? Nutrition is a contributing factor to all areas of internal health.
how you care for…
Nutrition goes far deeper than just weight loss. It affects the way you think, the way you feel and how well you respond to challenges. It affects how you care for your mind, body, and soul. It affects how you can care for those you love and for the world you love. Did you know that we have a responsibility to take care of our health as we have a responsibility to take care of the world we live in?
Yes, weight loss is important. If you’re someone who is overweight or obese, if you’re someone who has held back from truly living confidently and courageously you likely agree that you’re only partly living. Your body and how you feel about it can hold you back from the abundant life you were created to live.
power and freedom
You can lose weight on a nutrition program. For weight loss to last, how you think about food and your body is as imperative as the food you eat. When you understand and remove habits, mindsets and former beliefs that resulted in overeating, binge, emotional and stress eating, now you’re living with the power and freedom to make sustainable lifestyle changes that affect you today and for years to come.
as you think
To make better nutrition choices, you must think better.
The more you think about something, the more trained your brain is concerning that thing. If all you think about is how hard it is to wake up in the morning, how hard it is to get to the gym, how hard it is to enjoy a salad when everyone else is enjoying a cheeseburger, how hard it is to not have wine, chips, candy and fast food you will have a HARD time losing weight!
It’s said to take 21 days to form a habit. This new habit is the result of consciously thinking about the new healthy action. This conscious thought takes a lot of effort. You have to think about what you’re thinking about. You have to think about what you’re eating. You have to think about moving your body. You have to think positively about how you see and speak to your body.
Many of these conscious thoughts can be counterintuitive to your subconscious negative thought patterns that already exist. It’s a process of tearing down old unhealthy, destructive thoughts and rebuilding new, healthy, positive ones. It’s like tearing down an old house to rebuild a new one. It takes a lot of work! BUT the work is always worth the reward that is to come!
However, when you keep up the conscious work day in and day out for a total of 63 days (that’s 3-21-day cycles), now you’ve moved these conscious thoughts, decisions and actions into the subconscious realm, meaning you don’t have to think about it so much anymore.
What you build into your mind determines what decisions you will make. If you don’t like the healthy decisions you’re currently making, you must build new thoughts and build new behaviours into your brain.
You have the power to change your mind and train your brain.
This is why Romans 12:2 tells us, ‘Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world but BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND’
So how do you think right so that you can eat right? We are going to discuss this more next week.
